LaserLinc technologies at a glance

LaserLinc medical measurement systems at a glance

New to LaserLinc? These are the six measurement and inspection families most often considered for medical tubing, catheters, guidewires, and related components. Some applications use one system; others combine sensors, sample handling, and software.

The selector starts with the measurement job, not a catalog name, so a result may correctly include more than one component.
LaserLinc Triton 330 three-axis laser micrometer for medical tubing OD and ovality measurement
ODOvalityInline + bench

Laser micrometers

Triton and Axion gauges measure external dimensions without touching the part. Multiple axes view the product from more than one direction, making ovality and presentation changes easier to identify.

Does not replace: direct ID, wall-thickness, or surface-topography measurement.

LaserLinc UltraGauge and Triton inline system for medical tubing wall, diameter, and concentricity measurement
WallConcentricityInline

UltraGauge + AutoPilot

UltraGauge provides continuous ultrasonic wall and concentricity measurement. Add laser OD data for OD, ovality, and calculated ID; AutoPilot can automate sensor positioning for faster changeovers.

Confirm first: material response, tube size, wall range, water coupling, and transducer access.

LaserLinc FlawSense system for complete surface-defect and dimensional inspection
3D surfaceODOvality

FlawSense

Laser-line triangulation maps the complete surface to detect pits, cracks, scratches, bumps, and other height-based defects while also measuring diameter and ovality.

Confirm first: optical condition, product motion, defect geometry, and the detection threshold that matters.

LaserLinc BenchLinc OD ID system for short medical tubing sample inspection
Short samplesOD + IDBench QA

BenchLinc OD/ID

Automated benchtop inspection for short polymer tubing samples. It measures OD, ID, wall thickness, and ovality with repeatable sample support and rotation.

Inspection method: controlled offline checks rather than continuous inline production measurement.

LaserLinc BenchLinc UT system for ultrasonic inspection of rigid medical tubing
Rigid tubingUltrasonicBench QA

BenchLinc UT

Ultrasonic bench inspection for rigid tubing, hypotubes, nitinol components, and similar parts. It measures wall and concentricity; an optional laser adds OD, ovality, and calculated ID.

Confirm first: ultrasonic response, part geometry, centering, and stable sample handling.

LaserLinc Total Vu interface for measurement visualization, SPC, reporting, and process control

Display, data, and control

The sensor is only one part of the system

Total Vu combines your measurements, operator steps and records in a system configured for your process. For laser micrometer applications, SmartLinc supports benchtop spot checks or direct machine integration.

  • Total Vu softwareCustom views, recipes, SPC, saved data, reports and optional control.
  • SmartLinc DisplayLive laser readings for benchtop spot checks. Cannot save or export data.
  • SmartLinc ProcessorLaser micrometer readings for your existing machine controller (PLC), operator display (HMI) or software.

Illustrative planning example

Inline tubing: OD, wall, concentricity and calculated ID

A hypothetical application profile, not a customer test result.

Application inputs
Single-layer polyurethane tubing in continuous extrusion; OD range 1–2 mm, target wall 0.10 mm and line speed 10 m/min. The product presentation is controlled, improved shape visibility is required, and the required outputs are OD, wall, concentricity and ID with Total Vu data handling.
Preliminary equipment path
The selector returns a three-axis laser micrometer paired with UltraGauge and Total Vu. The laser supplies OD; ultrasound supplies wall data and wall-distribution information for concentricity. ID is calculated from the combined measurements.
What still needs confirmation
Confirm the full wall range, tolerances, material response, water coupling, alignment and required repeatability with representative samples before selecting the final gauge and transducer configuration. These inputs do not establish measurement performance.
Technical basis and manufacturer sources

These LaserLinc references explain the measurement roles and inspection methods behind the selector. Final equipment scope remains application-specific.

Tool questions

Medical selector FAQ

Can I buy LaserLinc equipment through Gauge Advisor?
Yes. Gauge Advisor is an authorized LaserLinc sales and applications representative and an equipment source for medical tubing and catheter measurement systems. Send your selector result to request a quotation. We handle equipment selection and quotation, coordinate sample evaluation when needed, and support order placement through the manufacturer sales channel. The final quotation defines the equipment scope, pricing, lead time, payment and order terms.
Can one system measure OD, wall, concentricity and ID during extrusion?
Yes, with coordinated sensors. A laser micrometer directly measures OD, while UltraGauge measures wall paths and provides wall-distribution information for concentricity. ID is calculated from the combined OD and wall measurements; it is not a direct lumen reading. Measurement positions and synchronization must be reviewed, especially when the product changes between sensors.
Is a spot check enough for finished-part tubing inspection?
Only when the accepted inspection procedure calls for those locations. A spot check does not establish the OD between measured locations. If acceptance depends on a bump, taper, transition or localized OD change along a cut part, review a configured Metron profile scan. Short-sample BenchLinc OD/ID and offline ultrasonic BenchLinc UT serve different inspection jobs; the drawing and required coverage determine the path. Scan length, measurement spacing and fixturing must match the part.
What should a sample test establish before I buy?
Use representative product to check the proposed measurement method and configuration. Before testing, agree the dimensions or defects to report, tolerances, reference measurements, repeatability target, handling and process conditions. Record which outputs the sample demonstration actually supports. A successful demonstration does not by itself validate the production method or guarantee the complete operating window.
Can I use the selector without complete specifications?
Yes. Use the best information currently available and select the closest inspection method. The result is a starting point, not a final equipment specification. Missing tolerances, materials, line conditions, or handling details can be clarified during application review.
Why might the result include more than one measurement component?
Different technologies answer different questions. For example, an optical micrometer may measure OD and ovality while an ultrasonic system measures wall thickness and concentricity. A coordinated system can be the correct result when the goals genuinely require both.
Is the selector result a final quotation or guaranteed fit?
No. It is preliminary application guidance based on the entered criteria. Gauge Advisor and LaserLinc confirm the final configuration using actual dimensions, tolerances, material behavior, sample testing, handling, validation, software, and integration requirements.

Measurement goals

What needs to be measured?

Select one goal or combine as many as the application requires. Every selection remains independent.

✓ Select individually or combine any measurement goals
Why this matters

The measurement problem determines the technology path. Combined goals can legitimately produce a coordinated system with more than one measurement component.

Preliminary guidance only. Recommendations are based on the information entered and do not replace application review, representative sample testing, or confirmation of geometry, materials, tolerances, handling, validation, software, and integration requirements. © 2026 Gauge Advisor LLC.
