Measure the product while it is being made—or after it is finished

Choose by product geometry and production stage. Inline systems reveal changes as they happen; bench and automated offline systems verify finished parts, tapers, profiles, and critical locations. 03 · Plastics material & melt processing

Stabilize the process before measuring the finished product

Material delivery and melt preparation are separate but connected jobs. Resin systems move, dry, meter, and blend solid material. Melt pumps and filters manage molten polymer after the extruder.

The whole process

The equipment is separate. The process is connected.

One downstream instrument cannot correct every upstream cause. A gauge can reveal variation but cannot dry resin. A melt pump can stabilize pressure but cannot correct web tension. Each system should measure or control a variable it can actually influence.

Fit note: not every line needs every stage. The goal is to identify the first unstable variable before adding equipment farther downstream.

Choosing a starting solution

What if I do not know which system I need?

Describe the product, process, symptom, and desired result. Gauge Advisor can determine whether the first review belongs with material handling, melt preparation, product measurement, coating inspection, or web control.

Can one project involve more than one manufacturer?

Yes. Many lines use separate specialists for material handling, melt management, dimensional measurement, coating gauging, tension, or guiding. Systems should be combined only when the process benefits and the interfaces are clearly defined.

Do you support retrofits as well as new lines?

Yes. Retrofit reviews consider available space, product or web path, utilities, controls, communications, mounting, guarding, and the capabilities of the existing machine.

What is the difference between measurement and control?

Measurement tells an operator or PLC what is happening. Closed-loop control also requires a compatible actuator, a proven process response, safe limits, interlocks, and clear ownership of the machine command.

Can final performance be confirmed from a specification alone?

Not always. Material behavior, geometry, surface condition, process motion, environment, and the accepted reference method may require representative samples or a detailed application review.
