A defect found at the end of a line may have started several stages upstream. Choose the closest symptom for the most useful first review.
The whole process
One downstream instrument cannot correct every upstream cause. A gauge can reveal variation but cannot dry resin. A melt pump can stabilize pressure but cannot correct web tension. Each system should measure or control a variable it can actually influence.
Fit note: not every line needs every stage. The goal is to identify the first unstable variable before adding equipment farther downstream.
